About

The name “As One Approved” comes from Paul’s charge to Timothy (2 Tim 2:15).  To stand before God approved and not ashamed won’t happen by accident, but by faithfully handling and living the truth of Christ.  I want that for me and for you.  The goal of this blog is broad: To help Christians grow in fellowship with and faithfulness to Jesus Christ.

My name is Michael Johnson.  A common and boring moniker, but nonetheless, it’s mine.  I’m head over heels for my wife, Sarah.  We’ve been married since 2004 and blessed by God with four precious, joy-giving, laughter-inducing, children.  Sarah and the kids are my first and most important ministry.

I am honored to pastor at Gospel Fellowship Church in Wheaton, Illinois.  We helped launch GFC in 2012.  You can learn more about our church here and listen to my sermons here.  For those who like labels, I’m a protestant Christian in the Reformed Baptist camp theologically.  I have a Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  (Note: The views expressed here are mine own not necessarily those of GFC).

Before God called me into full time pastoral ministry, I served Him as a pharmacist for thirteen years.  I have a Doctorate in Pharmacy from North Dakota State University.  Most of my career was spent in a long-term care pharmacy setting.  During those years I also served in pastoral ministry, working as a tentmaker for several years before going full time with GFC.

Personally, I enjoy the outdoors: camping, fishing, and hiking (though we don’t get much hiking in the flatlands of Illinois).  I’m a huge fan of good movies, good books, and good company.  I also enjoy creating through drawing, painting, writing, Lego, and wood carving.

Why this blog?  Well, it’s certainly not because of a dearth in online articles.  As a pastor and teacher, it seems there is always more I would like to say.  And there is a fire in my belly to do all I can to equip the saints.  This blog gives me an outlet for both.  I want to help disciples grow in their walk with our Lord Jesus Christ – living as one approved.

Lord willing, I pray you find this blog useful to that most important of ends.
